  • Speed Bumps of Life

Santa brought me a new computer several days before Christmas.  It broke several days later and required me to use their on line service link to self inspect/disassemble my new computer to find out it was broken.  Several days later a service tech was dispatched with a new power supply and got me up and running.  It was all such a hassle.

ATT bought Bell South late last year.  Every month since I have been double billed for internet service.  Every month I call and they promiss to fix the problem and give me credit.  February's bill arrived and the problem persists.  It is all such a hassle.

My apartment complex was purchased by a new property management company on December 14.  Since that date the security gates have not operated, my water and sewage bill went from $5.77 per month to $23 per month and I am required to maintain renters insurance to keep my lease.  Upgrades and enhanced services are promised during the next year.  I wonder what these upgrades and enhanced services are going to cost me each month.  It is all such a hassle.

Actually, none of these things are a hassle.  They are just the speed bumps of life keeping you awake on your limited journey through life.  They remind you to appreciate the things you have to be thankful about.  I am thankful to my friends at xanga who checkup on me from time to time.  I appreciate you, edlives, 11nations and all my family who don't give up on me despite my absences.

Tell me about your speed bumps

....Hello, I just called to say hello....

My father is perfectionist.  He doesn't email me because he refuses to send letters unless they are perfect in text, grammar and spelling.  He starts many times and quits because he doesn't know how to use word spell and has lost his dictionary.  I can relate to his frustration.  The important thing to me is that I KNOW he loves me and thinks about me.  A letter would be nice but I understand.

How do you think I relate to the above picture?

    ...the ecstacy...               ...the agony...

I remember being hungry.  I remember deciding to join the team.  I remember making the team.  I remember day one on the team.  I remember the day I knew I had "it".  I remember the promotions coming sooner than expected.  I remember the long hours.  I remember the disappointment of supporting and mentoring a team member and them leaving me before the final bell. I remember the ecstacy winning and the agony losing.  I remember total commitment.

Anthony Robbins once said, "There is no such thing as a lazy person.  There are only those who have impotent goals.  That is to say, goals that have not been embrace and challenges that have not been accepted."

I am hungry.  I am committed to paying off my wife's before August 1, 2007.  That is three years early.  That's my new years resolution.

Question:  What is the opposite of love?  Answer:  Apathy.   Resolve to not be apathetic about anything in 2007.

       ...mistakes happen...

    *YES*  New checks ordered.

*YES*  Notified entire world of new address

*YES*  Arranged for telephone and cable services transfer

*YES*  Arranged for electric, gas, water and trash pick up services transfer

*YES*  Arranged for truck rental, labor, apartment cleaning.

*YES*  Gave out the wrong address to all of the above.

*YES*  Experienced the excitement of trying to explain the mistake on deaf ears to resolve installation issues.  Learned how humbling it can be when trying to explain to the neighbor why their services were interrupted because of my mistake.  Experienced the joy of giving by paying transfer fees to have services moved to the wrong address, then doubled my joy by paying transfer fees to have services moved from the wrong address to the correct address.  Enjoy my sabbatical from the cyber world and the solace of silence on my telephone line.  Became reacquainted with my DVD collection by watching many of my movies instead of cable programs.

It was an honest mistake.  The apartment management insists they gave me the right address because the address I thought was mine belongs to a person who has lived in the apartment for three years.  I did not do a physical tour of the new apartment because it is the same model I lived in for two years prior to moving to my last address.  This was a costly mistake in terms of both money and time.

What major goofs have you experienced?

    1.  It is the purple dyed thumbs of Iraqis who voted.

    2.  It is a famous poster of Uncle Sam urging you to vote.

I am a straight shooting up front person who has no problem stating my views to those who wish to hear them.  I do, however, have one condition.  I will not share my views with those who do not vote.  I usually ask, "Did you vote?"  If the answer is yes, we share our views and gain different insights to issues.  If the answer is no, I politely change the subject.  I say something like, "Say, those shoes are really cool.  Where'd ya git 'em?" or "How 'bout them Cowboys?"

The same people who rationalize their vote won't matter, so why waste their time are almost always the first one in line to buy lotto tickets even though it's almost a certainty to lose.  Take a folding chair.  Take a digital recorder.  Take a book.  Take a camera.  Take the time to vote.  It is satisfying experience!
